Local SEO rank tracker

Rank tracking earns its keep when it closes the loop on the work. Scan before you make a change, scan after, and put the two maps side by side — that comparison is the difference between reporting activity and reporting results.

The loop

Measure, change, measure

The value is not in the scan. It is in having two scans that bracket a decision.

  1. 1

    Baseline

Scan before you touch anything. Without a baseline, any later scan is just a number with no meaning attached to it.

  2. 2

    Change one thing

Categories, services, posting cadence, review velocity, landing pages. One substantial change at a time keeps the attribution readable.

  3. 3

    Wait properly

Two to four weeks for most profile work. Re-scanning too early measures noise and tempts you into the wrong conclusion.

  4. 4

    Compare

Same keyword, same grid, same spacing. Read the delta in average rank and top-3 coverage, and look at where on the map it moved.

Keep the grid identical between scans. Change the size or spacing and the two results are no longer comparable, however similar the maps look.

What it supports

Built around the reporting cycle

Before / after comparisons

Any two scans, side by side, with average rank, top-3 coverage, best rank and points-found computed for both — and the direction of each delta shown honestly.

White-label client reports

Send the comparison under your own logo, colours and domain. The artifact carries your brand, which matters when it is the thing justifying a retainer.

Recurring scans

Put scans on a schedule so the baseline for next month's report is already there when you need it, rather than being reconstructed after the fact.

Trend over time

A sequence of scans on the same grid shows a trajectory. One scan is a position; several are a direction.

FAQ

Local SEO measurement, answered

How do I know which change caused a ranking movement?+

Strictly, you often cannot — local search has many moving parts and Google updates on its own schedule. What you can do is make the attribution as clean as the situation allows: scan immediately before a change, make one substantial change at a time, and scan again after it has had time to take effect. That will not give you proof, but it gives you a defensible read instead of a guess.

How long after a change should I re-scan?+

Give it two to four weeks for most profile-level work. Scanning the next morning mostly measures noise, and a null result at 24 hours tells you nothing about whether the change will land.

What should I report to a client?+

The comparison view rather than the raw scan: average rank, top-3 coverage, and the before and after maps next to each other. A client can see a green area growing. Very few of them can read a table of positions, and none of them should have to.

Does rank tracking replace tracking leads?+

No, and it should not try to. Rankings are a leading indicator; calls, forms and bookings are the outcome. Rank tracking tells you whether the visibility work is landing, which is useful precisely because lead volume is noisy and lags.

Can I use this alongside Local SEO Bot?+

Yes. Local SEO Bot subscribers get geo-grid tracking as part of the platform. Maprank is the same tracking as a standalone tool, for agencies and businesses who want the measurement without the managed service.
