How a Paving Site Can Get Found on Google: An Easy Lesson
A paving crew lays new roads, lots and drive ways. They also fix cracks. They also seal old tar so it lasts. But how do people find them?
Most of the time, they use Google. So in this lesson, we will learn how a paving site can show up there. Each step is small. Let's go.
Who Looks for a Paving Crew?
There are two kinds of folks who look:
- Home owners. They want a new drive way. Or they want to fix the one they have.
- Shop owners. They have a lot where cars park. It may need to be sealed, fixed or lined.
These two groups use different words. A home owner may type "driveway repair." A shop owner may type "parking lot paving." Your site should speak to both, if the crew does both.
Step 1: Make a Word List
Think about what each group types. Write it down.
For home owners:
- new driveway
- asphalt driveway
- driveway repair
- seal my driveway
- driveway cracks
For shop owners:
- parking lot paving
- parking lot repair
- line striping
- commercial sealcoating
Add the town name to some of them. Like "asphalt driveway" plus the city.
Step 2: Build a Page for Each Job
Next, make pages. One job per page. Do not cram it all in one spot.
A good paving site might have:
- New drive ways
- Drive way repair
- Seal coat
- Crack fill
- Parking lots
- Line striping
Take a look at this page on new asphalt driveways in Columbus. It talks about one main job. A page like that is easy for Google to sort.
Step 3: Fill Each Page With Help
Now write. But write to help, not to sell.
Here are things a home owner wants to know:
- How long does a new drive way last?
- How long until I can drive on it?
- What is the best time of year to pave?
- How do I care for it?
- What is the difference between tar and stone?
Answer each one in a few short lines. Use a sub head for each. People like to skim.
Do not make up facts. If you do not know a price, do not guess. You can say price depends on size and how much prep is needed.
Step 4: Add Photos With Good Names
Show the work! A fresh, black drive way looks great.
Tips:
- Use your own photos, not stock ones.
- Name each file well. Like "new-asphalt-driveway.jpg."
- Write alt text that says what is in the shot.
- Shrink the files so they load fast.
Step 5: Set Up the Google Map Listing
When someone looks up a paving crew, Google shows a map. The top three get the most calls. To get on that map, you need a Google Business Profile.
Fill it out all the way:
- Pick the best main type. "Paving contractor" fits many crews.
- Add more types if they fit, like "asphalt contractor."
- List each job as a service.
- Set the towns you serve.
- Add real photos.
- Keep your hours right.
Then ask real clients for real reviews. Reply to each one, good or bad. Be kind and short.
Step 6: Plan for the Weather
Paving is a warm weather job. In cold places, crews stop in late fall. They start up again in spring.
That means you should:
- Work on your site in winter.
- Post tips in fall, like "How to get your drive way ready for snow."
- Post tips in spring, like "What to look for after a hard winter."
By the time spring comes, your pages will be ready.
Step 7: Point Your Pages at Each Other
Link from one page to the next. For example:
- The new drive way page can link to the seal coat page.
- The crack fill page can link to the repair page.
- A blog post on winter can link to crack fill.
These inside links help people keep reading. They help Google too.
Step 8: Get Links From Other Good Sites
Other sites can link to you. Good links help you rank.
For a paving site, think about:
- Local home pros who do other jobs, like gutters or decks
- Builders who need drive ways for new homes
- Local trade groups
- Shop owners you have done lots for, if they are glad to link
Ask nicely. Do not pay for junk links. They can do harm.
Step 9: Make It Easy to Reach You
When a person is ready, they want to call fast. So:
- Put a call button at the top on phones.
- Add a short form on each page.
- Ask only for what you need.
- Say how soon you will get back to them.
Test it all. Make sure calls and forms work.
Step 10: Track It and Be Patient
Use Google Search Console. It is free. It shows:
- Which pages Google has found
- Which words bring people to you
- Which pages may need help
You can also use a map rank tool. It shows where you show up on the map in each part of town.
Check every week or two. Fix one thing. Then wait. It can take months to see real change.
Let's Go Over It Again
Here is the whole plan:
- Know who is looking.
- Make a word list.
- Build one page per job.
- Fill pages with help.
- Add good photos.
- Set up the map listing.
- Plan for the weather.
- Link your pages.
- Earn good links.
- Track it and wait.
That is a lot of steps. But each one is small. Do them one at a time. Over time, a paving site that does them well has a good shot at being found.
